Town of Naches Welcome Sign

The Town of Naches held a ribbon cutting for the new art deco style Welcome Sign in early June 2018. Town leaders hope the messages displayed on the electronic reader board will promote Naches events and businesses and encourage more of the 10,000 travelers who drive down Hwy 12 each day to stop in Naches for a meal or to attend a community event.

Designed by BORA Architecture, the art deco mirrors of the look of the landmark Spire building across from the Naches Train Depot.

K-4 Elementary School Opened

The new K-4 Elementary replaces two 60-year old buildings, Naches Valley Primary in Gleed and Naches Valley Intermediate in Naches. The school can house up to 600 students. The new energy-efficient building opened in the fall of 2016 and features a full-size gym and preschool rooms.

The funding comes from a $20 million levy passed by voters, which replaces two 60-year old building. With the completion of this new school, all of the Naches School District buildings will be located in the Town of Naches within a 10-block radius.

Due to a grant from Pacific Power, the new building will feature a 30KW solar system, providing up to 15 percent of the building's needs during the day. The installation of the panels was done by Perry Tech's electrical classes. In addition, the hydronic heating system will use ground-source heat pumps, to provide all the building's heating needs.

Allan Road Intersection Improvements

In June 2011 the Town celebrated the end of construction for the highway improvements at the intersection of Allan Road and Hwy 12. The project also included engineering and construction required to extend water and sewer service to a 60-acre area around the intersection, that was party annexed by the Town of Naches and is planned for commercial development. The project also includes the widening of Allan Road and other improvements, including lighting, curbs and gutters. Additional lanes will allow drivers to speed up and slow down before entering or leaving the highway, which should improve safety significantly.

Funding for this project came from the Washington State Department of Transportation, Yakima County Development Association, and State and Federal transportation sources.

Naches Trail

This phases of the Naches Trail included the construction of 3 1/2 miles of pathway from Allan Road just east of town to the historic Naches Depot. The project includes a lighted picnic area just across the street from the Naches Depot.

The eventual plan is to connect the Naches Trail to the Yakima Greenway and will be implemented in phases as funding allows. The Yakima Greenway is currently working on receiving a grant that would enable them to pave another 3.5 miles leaving only about 4 miles to hook up with the Greenway Path at 40th avenue in Yakima. Imagine being able to walk or ride your bike from Naches to Sarg Hubbard Park or the Yakima Area Arboretum. What a wonderful addition to Downtown Naches!

Funding for phase one of this project was from a direct allocation from the Washington State Legislature, sponsored by Rep. Charles Ross and Rep. Curtis King.

Naches Train Depot

The Naches Depot has added additional parking along with a 20’ x 40’ shelter (from Eschbach Park). The project was done by the Town of Naches, Granite Construction, Huibregtse, Louman and Associates and some grant funds from the USDA.  The Naches Lion’s club is making preparation to reconstruct the second shelter at the Depot in the fall of 2012.  Both shelters were dismantled and transported by a couple of Naches Valley High School students for their senior project.

The renovated Train Depot serves as a Visitor Information Center for the Town of Naches during the summer months. Naches is the eastern portal of the White Pass Scenic Byway and the Chinook Scenic Byway.
