Community Development

Recent community development projects in the Town of Naches include:

Allan Road Intersection Improvements

In June 2011 the Town celebrated the end of construction for the highway improvements at the intersection of Allan Road and Hwy 12. The project also included engineering and construction required to extend water and sewer service to a 60-acre area around the intersection, that was party annexed by the Town of Naches and is planned for commercial development. The project also includes the widening of Allan Road and other improvements, including lighting, curbs and gutters. Additional lanes will allow drivers to speed up and slow down before entering or leaving the highway, which should improve safety significantly.

Funding for this project came from the Washington State Department of Transportation, Yakima County Development Association, and State and Federal transportation sources.

Naches Trail

This initial phase of the Naches Trail includes the construction of a one-mile pathway from Allan Road just east of town to the historic Naches Depot. Construction began in October 2008 and completion is scheduled for late Spring 2009. The project includes a lighted picnic area just across the street from the Naches Depot and the paving of the first mile of the pathway.

The eventual plan is to connect the Naches Trail to the Yakima Greenway and will be implemented in phases as funding allows.

Funding for phase one of this project was from a direct allocation from the Washington State Legislature, sponsored by Rep. Charles Ross and Rep. Curtis King.

Naches Train Depot

The Naches Depot has added additional parking along with a 20’ x 40’ shelter (from Eschbach Park). The project was done by the Town of Naches, Granite Construction, Huibregtse, Louman and Associates and some grant funds from the USDA.  The Naches Lion’s club is making preparation to reconstruct the second shelter at the Depot in the fall of 2012.  Both shelters were dismantled and transported by a couple of Naches Valley High School students for their senior project.

The renovated Train Depot serves as a Visitor Information Center for the Town of Naches during the summer months. Naches is the eastern portal of the White Pass Scenic Byway and the Chinook Scenic Byway.
